I recently came upon a video on youtube of an Amerasian in Vietnam. From the video, a man with such determination’ desperately looked for his father. “With any price, he would find a way to get out of Vietnam,” he said in Vietnamese. The man said his name is Nguyen Van Lanh. But his face yielded the trace of a Westerner. Seeing this video, I couldn’t help but think about how this person felt. Does he feel trapped in a society that seems so incongruous to himself? What about all the discrimination for looking different? I contacted the person who posted the video and find out more about the man. Brian H, a Danish, who visited Vietnam in 1992 and saw Amerasians in Ho Chi Minh City.
